Join us in-person or virtually for a great discussion with Wendi Riley, Forensic Auditor Manager, Georgia Bureau of Investigations, Financial Investigations Unit.
Wendi has been employed with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation since January of 1998 and was promoted to the position of Auditor Manager in 2015. As a Forensic Auditor with the GBI, Wendi uses accounting, auditing, computer, and investigative skills to assist in examining financial evidence of alleged crimes as requested by District Attorneys and Law Enforcement Agencies.
She has been involved in 100s of fraud related investigations and cases involving crimes such as theft, embezzlement, human trafficking, financial exploitation of at-risk adults, kickback schemes, securities fraud, insurance fraud, corruption, drugs, money laundering, and murder. She has testified before the Grand Jury and as an expert witness for trial cases in Georgia.
In addition to managing and training the auditors of FIU, she assists with cases and case consults. She teaches Basic Financial Investigation Techniques as a portion of several courses provided by the Georgia Police and Fire Academies at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center and as a portion of the Basic Agent class for GBI. She participates in financial investigation work groups and provides various financial investigation related presentations when requested.
Prior to her employment at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, she was a Tax Field Agent with Georgia Department of Revenue where her duties included income and sales tax return preparation, audits, billing, and collections.
She received her Master of Public Safety Administration in December of 2020 from Columbus State University. She received her B.A. degree in Accounting in August of 1994 and an Associate Degree in Math in August of 1989 from Clayton State College.
She became a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) in October of 2001, a Certified Instructor with the Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council in May of 2006, and a Certified At-Risk Adult Crime Tactics Specialist (CACTS) in July of 2019.
